An Unforgettable Experience/ The happiest Day in My Life
Original:
I could still remember that day vividly. That night I had studied at school library; it was around 10 o’clock, and I prepared to go back home. As I passed through the school gate, I bid goodbye to my friends. Suddenly I saw a strange thing in front of me.
There was a male standing beside the cross-walk; the traffic light was green, he could walk forward, but he didn’t. He was just standing there and made no actions. I was confused at this sight. Out of curiosity, I decided to walk over to him and to see what was happening. I felt perplexed until I walked next to him. Standing beside him, I could see he was wearing sunglasses and holding a white stick; then I knew this man was blind.
In this cold winter day, pedestrians all wore heavy coats, including him and me. His was gray and mine was black. I also noticed that there was a sign around his neck. The sign said “I am virtually deaf and blind; please help me cross the street. Tap me on the shoulder.” I knew I must help him. So I tapped him on the shoulder, and then he put his left hand on my right shoulder and I led him across the street. All the process was quiet; the only thing I could hear was the sounds of our steps. It was a chilly night too, but I knew he would feel warm at this moment. When we got across the street, he bowed in thanks, and started walking up the block, to the next corner, then the next. While he walked past me, I couldn’t help but start to weep. I wanted to walk him home. It was not a very busy street, almost deserted. He could have been there, on that corner, for 10 minutes. Maybe he is still at another corner, now, waiting. How does he get home? How does he know where his home is? Thinking of this, I cried more loudly.
I can’t image being deaf and blind. You would be so helpless and dependent on other people. Can you imagine going home like that every day: walking a block, then waiting for someone to help you get across the street, then walking another block, and waiting, relying on the kindness of strangers? After this incident, I realised how blessed I am. I should cherish every day and do my best to help the people who need help in my life.

Adapted copy:
Kent still remembers that night vividly. The scenes are still playing in his mind like a movie slideshow. After studying in the colledge library, it was already 10.30 p.m. “Oops, it’s time to go back home,” Kent murmured to himself. He packed his books and prepared to go back home. As he passed through the colledge gate, he bid goodbye to his course mates. Out of his expectation, he saw a dark figure in front of him.
There was a male standing beside the crossway; the traffic light was green, he could walk forward, but he did not. Kent wondered why. The strange man was just standing there and made no actions. Ken was puzzled at this sight. Out of curiosity, Kent decided to walk over to him and to see what was happening. Kent felt completely baffled until he walked next to the man. Standing beside him, Kent could see the man was wearing sunglasses and holding a white stick. “Oh, he is blind…” Kent thought to himself
In this cold night, all pedestrians were wearing thick, heavy coats, including kent and the blind man. His coat was gray and Kent’s was black. Kent also noticed that there was a sign around his neck. The sign read, “I am virtually deaf and blind; please help me to cross the street. Tap me on the shoulder.” Kent knew clearly that he must help him. So Kent tapped the blind man on the shoulder, and then he put his left hand on Kent’s right shoulder and led the blind man across the street. All the process was quiet; the only thing he could hear was the sounds of their steps. It was a dark chilly night too, but deep down Kent’s heart, he knew that the blind would feel the warmth of humanity at this moment. At least, someone was there to lend his hands to him.
When they got across the street, the blind gentleman bowed in thanks, and started walking up the block, to the next corner, then the next using his stick. While the blind man walked past Kent, Kent could not help but began to weep silently. Kent wished to walk him home. It was not a very busy street, almost deserted and isolated. The blind man could have been there, at that corner, for 10 minutes. Perhaps he is still at another corner, now, waiting. Waiting for another kind soul. “How does he get home? How does he know where his home is?” Thinking of this, Kent became more emotional and shed tears of empathy.

When Kent got back home, he shared this on his facebook status:
“I can’t image being deaf and blind, you would be so helpless and dependent on other people. Can you imagine going home like that every day: walking a block, then waiting for someone to help you get across the street, then walking another block, and waiting, relying on the kindness of strangers?”
After this incident, I realised how blessed I am. I should cherish every day and do my best to help the people who are in needs. It was indeed a memorable day (an unforgettable experience/meaningful day/the happiest day) that marks a new beginning in my life.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                   (525 words)
                                                                   ~Adapted by Teacher Jenna 2013~
Notes:

You must understand the topic and able to adapt and change the essay to suit the topic.

For example, if the topic is about “ how a friend has changed your life”

Don’t be panicked as you can still change this essay to fit the topic. Just add some details:
- The blind left you a thank you note and his contact number- since then, you both have become friends- his positive attitude has inspired and changed the way you look at the world and things- you have started to involve yourself in social welfare and have helped many disabled people - So this is how he has changed your life. – you have found the meaning of living.

If the topic is - write a story ending with: “ …now I realise the value of a true friend.”
 (SPM 2008)

You just switch yourself to be the blind man – one day, you met your old friend- and how the true friend helped you to cross the road and took good care of you in your life.

If the topic is – write a story beginning with : “ring, ring, ring…”
You write about how your friend phoned and invited you to the library but never showed up- then on the way going back home, you met the blind man and helped him to cross the road. (use the same essay, just add some details on the first paragraph, for the rest paragraphs, just recopy)

Don’t forget to add dialogues in your story and write in PAST TENSE. Good luck guys!
